Varstaff is looking for a Test Engineer II for Blue Origin in Kent, WA.

About the Role

This position supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed for human spaceflight and reusable missions to Earth orbit and beyond. You will have primary responsibility for development, qualification, and production test campaigns on various spaceflight systems.

Key Responsibilities

Test Campaign Ownership: Own the planning and execution of component and subassembly test campaigns on mechanical, actuated, hydraulic, cryogenic, and/or pneumatic systems from fabrication to delivery.

Procedures & Reviews: Author and maintain detailed test procedures, lead test readiness reviews and pre-test briefings, and conduct data reviews to verify test success.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with design engineers to identify requirements, operations engineers to integrate tests into test stands, and technicians to execute procedures.

Equipment & Tooling: Identify necessary test fixtures, test support equipment, and data acquisition systems, collaborating with designers to procure hardware.

Process Improvement: Drive efficiency and increased throughput in testing activities while maintaining strict quality standards and prioritizing safety.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education: B.S. degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a relevant field.

Experience: 3+ years of experience in component testing and data analysis.

Project Management: Proven ability to successfully manage multiple project schedules simultaneously.

Communication: Strong written, interpersonal, and computer skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with both executive leadership and shop floor technicians.

Traits: A strong work ethic, high attention to detail, excellent organization, and a true passion for spaceflight and space exploration.

Preferred (Nice to Have)

5+ years of applicable industry experience (launch vehicles, satellites, aircraft, motorsports, or oil & gas).

Technical expertise in high-pressure (up to 6000 psi), cryogenic, actuated, and/or hydraulic systems.

Strong knowledge of fluid components (valves, regulators, actuators, servo-valves, fittings) and precision clean hardware.

Experience with sensors, instrumentation (pressure transducers, accelerometers), data acquisition, and automated systems.

Experience with Environmental Testing (proof, leak, vibration, thermal, etc.) per SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-1540, or MIL-STD-810.

Familiarity with data analysis, processing, and reduction techniques.
