What is the Community Corrections Division (CCD)?CCD offers guidance, support, and program opportunities for individuals returning to the community. Review the CCD priorities, goals, strategies, and performance measures in the Strategic Plan E Book.
Responsibilities- Supervise criminal S/Is (supervised individuals) in the community in accordance with Washington State law, Interstate Compact Rules/Regulations, agency policy, and prescribed time frames.
- Conduct investigations, searches, issue warrants, and make arrests as required.
- Complete intake; administer risk, needs, and substance abuse assessments.
- Manage electronic and hardcopy files and reports.
- Engage with S/Is to promote positive change using evidence-based communication strategies.
- Apply Motivational Interviewing and Principles of Effective Interventions to influence behavior and outcomes.
- Enforce supervision conditions and the law; present written documentation and oral testimony; recommend sanctions to courts/hearings.
- Maintain proper evidence handling and custody; ensure safe firearm storage and compliance with department policies.
- Understand safety protocols for armed operations and field contacts, including wearing safety gear as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Note:
There are two levels (CCO1 in-training and CCO2). Minimum qualifications include firearms eligibility, valid WA driver’s license, and the ability to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds. The candidate must demonstrate experience/education in at least three of the following areas:
- Written communication; critical thinking; analytical reasoning; conflict resolution; situational awareness; problem solving; organizational skills; ability to work independently; flexibility.
AND must have one of the following combinations of education/experience in adult or juvenile corrections, counseling, social work, social services, law enforcement, or closely related fields:
- High school diploma/GED + at least four years of qualifying experience.
- Associate or technical degree + two years of qualifying experience.
- Bachelor’s degree + qualifying experience (at least one year if required by combination).
- Or an equivalent combination totaling four years.
Qualifying higher education must be from an accredited institution. Permanent CCO2 positions may include an in-training plan; placement may be at CCO2 or CCO1 with a one-year training plan. In-training is concurrent with probation or trial service; successful completion advances to CCO
2.
- Complete felony disclosure and background check.
- Complete psychological screening and battery exam.
- Drug testing per policy.
- Complete orientation and mandatory training within prescribed time frames.
- Comply with department policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Complete Firearms Academy and CIT training within required time frames and maintain firearms qualifications.
