Community Corrections Officer 2 (or CCO1 In‑training)
Location:
Kent, WA – 1404 Central Ave S, Kent, WA 98032.
- Supervise and oversee criminal individuals (S/Is) under community supervision per Washington State law and agency policy.
- Conduct investigations, searches, issue warrants, and make arrests when necessary.
- Complete intake, administer risk, needs, and substance‑abuse assessments.
- Maintain electronic and hard‑copy files and reports related to each supervised individual.
- Engage S/Is using motivational interviewing and other effective communication strategies to promote positive change.
- Enforce supervision conditions and legal requirements, presenting accurate documentation and sanction recommendations.
- Identify, collect, document, and preserve evidence ensuring proper chain of custody.
- Exercise sound judgment regarding firearm use, storage, and discharges in accordance with Department policies and applicable laws.
- Work independently and in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including courts, community agencies, and other law‑enforcement agencies.
- Ability to carry and properly use a department‑issued firearm.
- Unrestricted, valid Washington state driver’s license.
- Willingness to work with individuals having criminal backgrounds and to review graphic materials.
- Demonstrated college‑level coursework or professional experience in at least three of the following areas:
- Written communication (clear, concise, grammatically correct).
- Critical thinking and analytical reasoning.
- Conflict resolution and situational awareness.
- Problem solving and organizational skills.
- Independent work and teamwork.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing policies.
- Qualified education and experience combinations:
- High school diploma or GED + 4 years of qualifying experience.
- Associate or technical degree + 2 years of qualifying experience.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) – 0 years of experience required.
- Alternative combinations totaling the required years.
- Completion of required pre‑employment requirements (felony disclosure, psychological screening, drug testing, orientation, firearms, and CIT training).
