Family Resource Specialist

The Family Resource Specialist is the first face of the Akin Family Resource Center when participants come in or call for resources, support, and programs. This role will perform a variety of tasks related to the daily operation of the FRC. Has access to protected healthcare information (PHI) or confidential identifiable information (CII), both paper and electronic, as necessary, to perform related job duties and responsibilities.

Essential functions include creating a warm and welcoming environment for all community members who walk in or call, assisting participants in accessing concrete goods in the resource room, providing information about Akin programs and external resources, referring participants to Family Navigation for secondary prevention and/or family development activities, keeping the Resource Room stocked and notifying the FRC Manager of resource needs, entering data about participant visits, resource room inventory, other data needs as assigned, and light clerical work to support the operations of the Akin Family Resource Center.

Depending on location, this role may also have duties related to welcoming families who arrive at the FRC for Behavioral Health, Early Learning, and Family Support services, answering phone, email, and in person inquiries about Akin programs such as Early Learning, Behavioral Health, and Family Support.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include skilled decision making, ability to work independently as well as part of a team, complete assigned projects, and carry out multiple tasks; reliable and dependable, arriving on time to welcome families to the center; willingness and ability to pivot as needed to address immediate needs presented by families and community; experienced in and/or willingness to learn Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and internal data systems;

strong communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain good public relations among participants, volunteers, community members, and staff; ability to effectively communicate in writing in a professional manner; familiarity with or interest in the principles of accessibility, inclusion, and belonging; and experience working successfully with colleagues, clients, or communities from a variety of backgrounds.

Working environment includes moderate noise, typical office lighting and temperatures, moderate to frequent interruptions depending on location, ability to work in a confined area, and ability to sit at a computer for an extended period.

Working remotely is not available for this position due to the need to be client facing. The position also requires occasional evening and weekend work to support events, deadlines, or operational needs.

Physical demands include standing, sitting, talking, hearing, and using hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard; reaching, stooping, and kneeling; close vision requirements due to computer work; regular, predictable attendance; and ability to lift up to 30lbs.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, 1-2 years' experience in social or human services working with children and families or combination of education and experience to that demonstrates skills and abilities required for the role, and a valid driver's license and a favorable driving record, with no more than three violations within the past three years.

Preferred qualifications include bi-lingual (as needed) and lived experience.

Salary range and benefits include a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive pay, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. The target starting pay for this position is $23.69 - $27.84 per hour, typically within the first half of these ranges. Actual offers will be based on individual qualifications relevant to the role and will not take an applicant's pay history into account.
