This contract role focuses on programming and supporting CNC machining operations in a manufacturing and machine shop environment. You will develop, maintain, and improve CNC programs using Mastercam for production and prototype parts, working with Makino machining centers equipped with Fanuc Pro5 controls and Renishaw probing systems. The position requires strong machining knowledge across a range of materials, along with close collaboration with machinists, engineering, and production teams to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality machining processes.

Responsibilities

  • Create, modify, and maintain CNC programs for production and prototype machining using Mastercam.
  • Support programming and setup activities for Makino machining centers equipped with Fanuc Pro5 controls and Renishaw probing systems.
  • Develop efficient toolpaths, setup sheets, tooling instructions, and related documentation to support CNC machining operations.
  • Review engineering drawings, models, specifications, and work instructions to determine programming and machining requirements.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, feeds, speeds, work holding, and machining strategies based on material type and part requirements.
  • Troubleshoot program, setup, tooling, dimensional, and process issues in coordination with machinists, engineering, and production leadership.
  • Verify CNC programs through simulation, prove-out, first article support, and process reviews to ensure quality and safe machine operation.
  • Maintain revision control of CNC programs and ensure all program changes are properly documented and communicated.
  • Assist with continuous improvement efforts to reduce cycle time, improve quality, and increase machining efficiency.
  • Apply sound machining practices when working with materials such as plastic, aluminum, steel, and stainless steel.
  • Support efficient machine setup and production by providing clear instructions and collaborating closely with shop personnel.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience as a CNC programmer, CNC machinist, or in a similar manufacturing role.
  • Proficiency with Mastercam for creating, editing, and optimizing CNC programs.
  • Familiarity with Makino machining centers equipped with Fanuc Pro5 controls and Renishaw probing systems.
  • Strong understanding of basic machining principles, tooling, fixturing, feeds, speeds, and work holding.
  • Experience machining various materials including plastic, aluminum, steel, and stainless steel.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, tolerances, and technical specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot machining and programming issues.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with machinists, engineering, and production teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supporting both production and prototype machining environments.
  • Background in maintaining documentation, setup sheets, and revision control for CNC programs.
  • Familiarity with using simulation tools and first article processes to validate CNC programs.
  • Exposure to continuous improvement initiatives focused on cycle time reduction, quality enhancement, and process optimization.

Why Work Here?

You will join a manufacturing environment that values precision, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement. The role offers the opportunity to work with advanced CNC technologies, including Makino machining centers and sophisticated probing systems, while contributing directly to process efficiency and product quality. You will collaborate with skilled machinists and engineers in a setting that emphasizes safety, teamwork, and professional growth.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a manufacturing and machine shop environment around operating machinery and CNC equipment. The role may require standing, walking, bending, reaching, and working in proximity to active machines for extended periods. You must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs and follow all applicable safety requirements, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
