Our manufacturing and equipment fabrication client is looking for a Mechanical Designer to join their engineering team. In this role, you will translate engineering specifications, customer requirements, and conceptual sketches into detailed, production-ready drawings and models. You will collaborate daily with engineers, fabricators, and assembly personnel to ensure designs are accurate, practical, and delivered on schedule. Assignments are varied and technically complex;
day-to-day work is largely self-directed and subject to peer review as part of our standard quality process.
A background in manufacturing environments is essential, and hands-on familiarity with process piping, structural steel, bases, or sheet metal fabrication is a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities- Develop 2D and 3D models using CAD software
- Produce customer-facing and internal layout drawings
- Create piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
- Generate fully dimensioned shop drawings for fabrication, including all views required for accurate part production
- Prepare general assembly drawings
- Develop as-built documentation; field-verify dimensions against physical equipment as needed
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to confirm manufacturability and tolerance feasibility
- Create and maintain part numbers, bills of materials, and associated specifications
- Contribute to the design development of new product concepts
- Projects are delivered on time, within budget, and fully meet design requirements
- Production rework attributable to design errors is minimized
- Parts are identified and procured early, reducing expediting and last-minute delays
- Drawing quality improves equipment delivery performance over time
- Certificate or associate's degree from a technical drafting or engineering technology program (2-year preferred)
- 4 or more years of relevant design or drafting experience
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Solid Works
- Experience producing fabrication drawings in accordance with ASME/ANSI standards
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes including sheet metal fabrication, machining, and casting
