Located in Kent, Washington Protective Coatings Inc. is a leading provider of full‑service finishing for the aerospace, electronics and medical industries. Services include non‑destructive testing such as fluorescent penetrant and magnetic particle inspection, and a wide variety of surface enhancement processes such as shot peening, abrasive blasting, passivation, cadmium and nickel‑zinc plating, chromic, sulfuric and boric acid anodizing, and the application of chromate conversion coating.

Organic coating work involves multiple resin systems such as epoxies, phenolics, polyurethanes, polyesters, elastomerics, intumescents, lacquers, alkyds, acrylics, dry‑film lubricants and Teflon. Protective Coatings is a National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (NADCAP)–approved supplier for major aerospace companies including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Gulfstream, Bombardier, Grumman, Sikorsky and others.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor will analyze processes to identify and implement continual improvement activities and represent the company with customers, suppliers, and certifying agencies. The supervisor will manage maintenance of shot peening machinery, paint component mixing systems, HVAC equipment, air compressors and dryers, rectifier systems, welding equipment, and monitoring and control equipment. Responsibilities also include mentoring lower‑level technicians, directing the Facilities department based on production needs, and maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

The Maintenance Supervisor reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure the integrity of all processing tanks and report discrepancies to Production and Quality Management.
  • Maintain mechanical equipment—overhead crane, air compressors, company‑owned vehicles, air lines, and other systems—while ensuring safety and operational readiness.
  • Work with outside contractors, when authorized, to maintain the working condition of company‑owned equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of paint booths and filters as required.
  • Ensure the safety of processing and office areas by inspecting duck boards, air lines, water lines, and repairing items as required.
  • Convey materials from storage or work sites to designated areas.
  • Secure lifting attachments to materials and convey loads using forklift or crane.
  • Operate forklift or crane to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
  • Safely operate facilities equipment such as power tools, hoists, cranes, forklifts, and scissor lifts.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of facilities systems including powder coating, in‑line paint mixing, vapor degreaser, solvent distiller, HVAC, plating/anodize rectifiers, tank electric heaters, and NDT hot water systems.
  • Operate production equipment such as ovens, dryers, immersion tanks, air compressors, paint booths, and make‑up air units.
  • Order and inventory materials, tools, accessories, and parts for production and maintenance.
  • Perform equipment maintenance on items such as air compressors and water piping systems.
  • Conduct electrical work to facilities and machinery as needed.
  • Repair and service machinery and equipment; schedule repairs to accommodate production.
  • Visually inspect and test machinery and equipment.
  • Develop and implement maintenance procedures.
  • Conduct facility inspections to identify and resolve issues.
  • Plan and oversee all repair and installation activities.
  • Interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Frequent physical tasks: sit or stand, reach, balance, lift up to 35 pounds, and handle airborne particles.
  • Occasional work near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Use computer skills with MS Suite and maintenance PM software.
  • Work independently or as part of a team, demonstrating cooperative skills.
  • Direct, train, and mentor employees.
Required Skills
  • Pick up debris and maintain plant grounds.
  • Load/unload materials onto pallets, barrels, racks, and shelves by hand and forklift.
