The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our team. In this role, you will provide professional nursing care and treatment to patients in accordance with medical protocols. You will work independently to assess patient needs, develop and implement care plans, administer medications and treatments, and educate patients and families. This position may also serve as a charge nurse or preceptor, coordinating licensed and non-licensed staff.
Salary Range: $67,177 - $91,767
ELIGIBLE FOR A $7,500 SIGN-ON BONUS. Additionally, positions are eligible for employee referral bonus program ($1,000).
To be eligible for a sign-on bonus, the candidate must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act.

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care and treatment to patients in accordance with medical protocols and physician directives. This role includes conducting nursing assessments, developing and implementing individualized care plans, administering medications and treatments, and educating patients and families. RNs work independently and may serve as charge nurses or preceptors, coordinating licensed and non-licensed staff. They maintain accurate medical documentation and comply with all regulatory standards.
The position requires knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and medical terminology; laws and regulations governing nursing care; and medications and their physiological effects. RNs must demonstrate the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans, lead teams, delegate tasks, and guide staff through feedback and training. Strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to respond effectively to emergencies are essential, along with the capacity to educate patients, families, and staff.
