Scope of WorkStudents will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to:
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Create treatment plans, perform diagnostics, and provide dentistry services.
- Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures and manage medical care.
- Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship experiences range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. At Lake Meridian Animal Hospital, externships are designed for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend; the stipend amount for Lake Meridian Animal Hospital is $1,500.
