The IDB Group is looking for an active graduate student to be hired as an intern under the Consultant modality.

The 2027 Winter Internship Program is a competitive paid opportunity, based in Headquarters, for university students from member countries to learn about development work and corporate management of the Bank, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job learning.

Support data analysis and the preparation of research papers on economic empowerment and social sector issues in Latin America and the Caribbean by:

• Cleaning and harmonizing survey and administrative data, including, but not limited to, ENDES and ENAHO in Peru, and ENOE, ENDIREH, and ENASEM/MHAS in Mexico.
• Contributing to the design and implementation of descriptive and econometric analyses using survey data.
• Constructing policy environment indicators by compiling and coding information from administrative records, legal reforms, and program rules.
• Contributing to literature reviews for research papers.
• Contributing to the drafting of research papers.
• Conducting complementary analytical work and preparing other outputs as needed by the research team.

• Education
  :
  An active graduate student in economics, sociology, political science, public policy, public health, and other related fields from an accredited University. The graduation date should be after the Internship period.
  • Knowledge of recent academic literature on labor force participation, employment, and social sector issues in low- and middle-income countries. Familiarity with research on household welfare and violence prevention is a plus.
• Languages
  :
  Fluency in English with a working knowledge of one other Bank language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Spanish is a plus as the survey documentation is primarily in Spanish.

• Technical skills: Strong quantitative and analytical skills, and experience in the following areas: (a) econometric analysis of large-scale survey and panel microdata; (b) statistical programming (preferably R or Python, Stata ok); (c) familiarity with modern causal-inference methods (demonstrable knowledge of recent developments in difference-in-differences and Bartik shift-share designs a strong plus).

• Citizenship

  Be a national of an IDB member country.
• Active student
  :
  Enrolled in a graduate (master’s or Ph.D.) program as of the starting date of the internship program. The graduation date should be after the Internship period.
• Consanguinity
  :
  Not have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB or IDB Invest.
