Raymond West is looking for a dynamic Shop Battery Technician to join the Service team! The Shop Battery Technician is responsible for planning and coordinating activities concerned with installing equipment, investigating, and resolving reports of technical problems with equipment, and eliminating future operational or service difficulties by performing the following duties

Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary duties and responsibilities will vary with the specific position. Typical responsibilities are listed below. This list is not inclusive.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and repair equipment.
  • When needed, remove cells and inspects parts to detect defects.
  • Replaces defective parts, reassemble battery, and fuses lead parts.
  • Check specific gravity levels to ensure proper electrolyte levels. Adjust as needed.
  • Washes, cleans, and neutralizes customer's batteries.
  • When assistance is needed, install new or modified equipment at customer's facility to ensure full functionality according to specifications in support of field operations.
  • Troubleshoot and repairs chargers.
  • Maintains records of performance reports.
  • Adhere to Hazardous Compliance regulations for disposing and storing of hazardous materials.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent Organizational Time Management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office Suite and similar software.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with employees, Co-workers, and Managers in other departments.
  • Must be willing to work off-hours as specific needs dictate and willing to assume more responsibility as required.
  • Must be able to fulfill essential job function in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner
  • A basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Previous experience working with hand and power tools.
  • Able to read and comprehend manuals, procedures, and other written documents written in English.
  • Able to solve simple formulas and do basic math.
  • Able and willing to travel to customer sites.
  • Able and willing to operate a forklift truck.
  • Must be able to do overnight travel.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a safe driving record with minimal traffic violations, as it may be necessary to drive a company vehicle at some and you must be able to be insured by Raymond West.
  • A basic electrical understanding.
  • The use of test equipment and reading schematics.
  • The ability to quickly analyze situations and make a decision and provide immediate feedback to the customer.
  • Functions without direct supervision.
Education/Experience:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent; or industry related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
