Mechatronics & Robotics Technician

The Mechatronics & Robotics Technician supports the operations and maintenance team by installing, maintaining, and repairing automated packaging and distribution equipment, including material handling and pneumatic systems throughout a large, highly automated facility. In this role, you diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical issues, perform predictive and preventative maintenance, and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently. You also have the opportunity to develop your technical expertise on high-speed automation and robotic equipment while mentoring junior technicians and contributing to a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote a safe working environment by following all safety procedures and lockout practices.
  • Perform predictive and preventative maintenance routines on material handling equipment and pneumatic systems, ensuring all work is properly documented.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems on material handling equipment, including belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, and related components.
  • Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment, including conveyor systems and robotic or electromechanical systems.
  • Use diagnostic testing and mechanical troubleshooting techniques to identify root causes of equipment issues and implement effective repairs.
  • Conduct inspections, run diagnostics, and create work orders to address identified maintenance needs on complex systems and industrial equipment.
  • Apply knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, and schematics to maintain and repair industrial automation equipment.
  • Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to record maintenance activities, track work orders, and manage equipment history.
  • Track, organize, and store department inventory, tools, and spare parts to support efficient maintenance operations.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship across the operations facility and collaborate with cross-functional teams to minimize downtime.
  • Mentor junior technicians by sharing knowledge, demonstrating best practices, and supporting their technical development.
  • Travel up to approximately 20% of the time, as needed, to support maintenance activities at other facilities or for training.
  • Perform metal and wood fabrication tasks as required for equipment repair or modification.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics to support troubleshooting and installation work.
  • Troubleshoot basic input and output functions for automated systems and control equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with Material Handling Equipment safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer and safety guidelines.
  • Support project-related maintenance activities and contribute to project planning and execution as needed.
  • Lift parts and tools, move equipment, and perform repetitive physical tasks such as bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
  • Work within small spaces and in environments that may include dust, fumes, hot or cold temperatures, noise, vibration, and wet or uneven surfaces while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Essential

Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2+ years of experience conducting quality predictive and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, shifts, and areas, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • At least 1 year of experience in PC competency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience in industrial maintenance or equipment maintenance, particularly on complex systems and industrial equipment.
  • Hands-on experience running diagnostics, performing inspections, troubleshooting, repairing, and creating work orders for industrial equipment.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting skills, including experience with motors, belts, conveyors, and related components.
  • Experience with automated conveyor systems and controls (minimum 2 years preferred).
  • Experience in the repair of material handling equipment (minimum 2 years preferred).
