Environmental Technician Job Description

The Environmental Technician safely consolidates, treats, stores, packs, transports, and disposes of hazardous waste in alignment with environmentally responsible and compliant practices, policies, and procedures. This role supports industrial cleaning, wastewater treatment, spill response, and facility services while maintaining detailed and accurate records and ensuring regulatory compliance. The position offers strong opportunities for career growth within the organization for individuals who perform well and take initiative.

Responsibilities
  • Consolidate, treat, store, pack, transport, and dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with applicable environmental regulations, company policies, and established procedures.
  • Perform industrial cleaning activities, including pressure washing and related tasks, to maintain safe and clean facilities.
  • Support wastewater treatment operations by following established processes and procedures to handle and treat wastewater safely and effectively.
  • Respond to spills and participate in spill response activities to contain, clean, and properly manage hazardous materials.
  • Perform facility services and yard work, including general site cleanup, to maintain a safe, organized, and compliant work environment.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately, legibly, and on time in accordance with regulatory requirements and customer policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely and effectively as required for environmental, cleaning, and waste-handling tasks.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and wear assigned personal protective equipment (PPE) consistently while performing duties.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of materials handled, processes followed, and services performed.
  • Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management to support operations and customer needs.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of prior experience working with hazardous materials.
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.
  • Experience with general labor and site cleanup activities.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all seasonal and climate conditions, including non-climate-controlled environments.
  • Comfort operating equipment used in environmental, industrial cleaning, and waste-handling operations.
  • Ability to accurately read labels and documentation, with sufficient visual acuity and depth perception to perform tasks safely.
  • Ability to hear vehicle warning chimes and alarms to maintain situational awareness and safety.
  • Willingness and ability to wear company-issued personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hard hat, steel-toed shoes, gloves, Tyvek coveralls, and respirator.
  • Commitment to completing documentation accurately, timely, and legibly in compliance with regulations and customer requirements.

Skills & Qualifications
  • HAZWOPER certification is a plus.
  • Experience in the environmental field, including yard work and environmental services, is highly beneficial.
  • Prior exposure to industrial cleaning, pressure washing, wastewater treatment, spill response, and facility services.
  • Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping skills.
  • Motivation to grow within the organization and take on increased responsibility over time.
Work Environment

This role primarily takes place outdoors in all seasonal and climate conditions, and indoors in non-climate-controlled environments. Team members work in rain or shine and must be comfortable performing physical tasks in varying weather. The current schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the possibility of transitioning to a 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. schedule and eventually a night shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The work involves industrial cleaning, wastewater treatment, spill response, facility services, and site cleanup using appropriate equipment and tools.
