PositionCommunity Social Worker
Pay Rate$3,974.23 - $4,980.16 bi‑weekly ($103,330 - $ annually) in first year. Rates vary based on schedule. This position is non‑exempt and therefore eligible for overtime.
OverviewWorks closely with Community Health Nurse to respond to residents’ needs for non‑emergent medical care, social services resources, and/or crisis intervention that have come through the 911 system or have been referred to the CARES department.
OrganizationPuget Sound Regional Fire Authority is an internationally accredited full‑service, all‑risk fire and rescue department that provides services to the citizens of Covington, Kent, Maple Valley, Sea Tac, Tukwila, and Fire Districts 37 & 43. Our workforce is comprised of approximately 475 employees.
LocationThroughout the course of your work, you may report to various stations throughout our service area.
ScheduleDuring training, 7:30 am – 5:30 pm, Mon–Thurs. After training, you will be assigned to a rotating 12‑hr or 24‑hr shift schedule.

- Respond in the field (home visits, encampments, etc.) with the Community Health Nurse to examine, screen, treat, and coordinate delivery of health and social services to individuals with behavioral health needs either referred to the program or identified through the Electronic Health Record system.
- Conduct assessments of individuals experiencing emotional, behavioral, or mental health crises.
- Work closely with law enforcement and fire department personnel while in the community.
- Provide comprehensive care coordination with other providers as part of wrap‑around care; follow through and bridge gaps where patients historically fall through the cracks.
- Provide direct clinical services utilizing evidence‑based practices for acute crisis intervention, therapeutic interventions, and case management.
- Identify and organize local and regional social services that can benefit residents and are easily accessed.
- Document all patient contacts and interactions in the appropriate electronic record system.
- Provide care coordination, advocacy, resource identification, and system navigation for patients with mental/behavioral health, substance use, homelessness/housing, financial, and other social service needs.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local hospitals, behavioral health and social service organizations, home health agencies, long‑term living facilities, Department of Social and Health Services, Adult Protective Services, Aging and Disability Services, Fire Department personnel, and local law‑enforcement agencies.
- Initiate handoffs to appropriate community resources and ensure follow‑through on service connections.
- Maintain printed and electronic files and correspondence adhering to HIPAA guidelines.

- HIPAA rules and regulations related to continuation of care.

- Social services available within the community, greater King County, and the State of Washington, as well as any federally related programs.
