Job DescriptionFamily Support Worker Job Description
Role PurposeThe Family Support Worker provides practical, emotional, and advocacy support to children, young people, and families to help improve their wellbeing, strengthen family relationships, and promote positive outcomes. The role involves working directly with families, assessing needs, developing support plans, and collaborating with other professionals and agencies to ensure families receive appropriate support.
Key Responsibilities- Build positive and trusting relationships with children, young people, parents, and carers.
- Conduct assessments to identify family strengths, needs, and areas requiring support.
- Develop and implement tailored support plans to help families achieve their goals.
- Provide practical guidance on parenting, child development, behaviour management, and family relationships.
- Support families in accessing education, health, housing, financial, and community services.
- Advocate on behalf of families and help them navigate complex systems and services.
- Monitor progress, review outcomes, and adapt support plans as required.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date records in line with organisational policies and GDPR requirements.
- Work collaboratively with schools, healthcare professionals, social workers, and other agencies.
- Adhere to safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety policies at all times.
- Promote equality, diversity, inclusion, and anti-discriminatory practice.
- Excellent communication and active listening skills.
- Ability to build rapport and establish professional boundaries.
- Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgemental approach.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

- Experience of multi-agency working.
- Relevant qualification in Health and Social Care, Family Support, Childcare, Youth Work, Social Work, Counselling, or a related field.
- Knowledge of local community resources and support services.
