Job Summary

The Corporate Controller ensures the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial reporting across all Hackbarth programs and locations. This leadership role oversees the accounting team based in Mobile and has full authority over accounting operations enterprise-wide. The Controller serves as the organization’s highest authority on accounting procedures and internal controls.

Key Responsibilities Organizational Leadership & Financial Oversight
  • Maintain the integrity of all accounting systems and financial records throughout the organization.
  • Act as the primary liaison with external auditors across all Hackbarth locations.
  • Conduct routine internal audits to ensure policy adherence and the effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Oversee General Accounting, Accounts Payable/Receivable, Fixed Assets, and Claims Adjudication functions.
  • Establish and manage secure systems for tracking and maintaining the organization’s fixed assets.
  • Provide backup support for billing, payroll, and month-end close processes.
  • Ensure comprehensive backup coverage for all accounting functions across the company.
  • Develop accounting procedures for new projects and business units.
  • Manage the preparation of 1099 tax filings, property tax returns, and year-end financial close activities.
  • Perform other duties assigned to support Hackbarth’s financial and strategic objectives.
Supervision & Team Development
  • Directly supervise the Accounting Manager, Payables Analyst, Receivables Analyst, Payroll Specialist, and other accounting staff as needed.
  • Apply strengths‑based leadership to develop and support team members professionally and personally.
  • Set clear expectations, provide consistent feedback, and conduct timely performance reviews through Catalytic Coaching.
  • Model and reinforce adherence to Hackbarth’s core values across the team.
Training & Organizational Learning
  • Participate actively in training and development opportunities, both internally and externally.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge‑sharing within the team.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of Hackbarth’s service lines and operations.
Community Engagement
  • Represent Hackbarth with professionalism and integrity in all community and partner interactions.
Technology & Systems Expertise
  • Demonstrate expert-level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and common office equipment.
  • Maintain advanced working knowledge of accounting and transportation management software; experience with Xcelerator is preferred.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Accounting (required).
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation (required).
  • Net Suite experience, or similar accounting software, is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting leadership roles.
  • Deep understanding of accounting principles and business operations.
  • Prior experience with transportation management systems, ideally Xcelerator or equivalent.
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required for occasional travel.
  • Must pass background check, MVR, and drug screening.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Collaborate effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
    • Communicate clearly in both written and verbal formats.
