The Sales and Use Tax Accountant will support the preparation and filing of sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions. This position will work with internal business partners to gather, pull, and manipulate transactional data needed to prepare assigned returns accurately and on time. The role will also assist with maintaining exemption certificate documentation, reviewing supporting detail, reconciling tax-related activity, and helping improve routine tax compliance processes.

Strong attention to detail, organization, and Excel skills are required for success in this role.
This will be a hybrid role (once training is complete) reporting to our corporate office in Brentwood, TN.

Sales and Use Tax Accountant

The Sales and Use Tax Analyst will support the preparation and filing of sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions. This position will work with internal business partners to gather, pull, and manipulate transactional data needed to prepare assigned returns accurately and on time. The role will also assist with maintaining exemption certificate documentation, reviewing supporting detail, reconciling tax-related activity, and helping improve routine tax compliance processes.

Strong attention to detail, organization, and Excel skills are required for success in this role.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Pull, organize, and manipulate sales, purchase, and tax data needed to prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns.
  • Prepare assigned sales and use tax returns, including reviewing supporting data, validating return inputs, and resolving routine questions or discrepancies.
  • File assigned sales and use tax returns and coordinate related payments in accordance with applicable filing deadlines.
  • Obtain, review, and maintain exemption certificates from customers and help track missing or expired certificates.
  • Review purchase invoices and other transactional activity for potential use tax accruals; prepare related journal entries and account reconciliations as assigned.
  • Assist with tax notices, routine audit support, documentation requests, process improvements, and other projects as needed.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree required, major in Accounting or Finance major preferred or relevant tax experience is required
  • 2-5 years of experience in tax or accounting experience preferred
  • Travel Required (%):Less than 5%
Skills:
  • Proven analytical skills
  • Proven teamwork ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Excel - creating/modifying spreadsheets, data cleansing, pivot tables & formulas
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters applications is preferred
  • Experience with People Soft is preferred
  • Knowledge of in tax software solutions a plus
