Direct Meds is a rapidly growing, privately held healthcare company providing technology-enabled telehealth, prescription medication, and pharmacy services directly to consumers. We operate in a dynamic, multi-entity environment with significant transaction volume and continued expansion into new products and services. We re a remote-first company investing heavily in institutional-grade finance, and this role is part of that foundation.
Position SummaryThe Technical Accounting Manager supports the accuracy and integrity of Direct Meds financial reporting and the appropriate application of U.S. GAAP. You will serve as the company s primary technical accounting resource, working closely with the CFO, finance leadership, operating teams, and external auditors. You ll initially report directly to the CFO, then to the VP of Corporate Accounting as that leader is seated, owning technical production end to end within priorities set by finance leadership.
This is a role for someone who wants deep ownership of the technical craft at a company big enough to have real complexity and small enough that your work lands on the CFO s desk unfiltered.
- Research and document complex accounting matters and prepare technical accounting memos for review and approval by finance leadership
- Support the appropriate application of U.S. GAAP, including revenue recognition (ASC 606) for subscription and telehealth arrangements, accruals, leases, equity and equity-based compensation, business combinations, and other complex transactions
- Review significant and unusual transactions and advise finance leadership on the appropriate accounting treatment
- Support acquisitions, new business arrangements, intercompany transactions, and other strategic initiatives from an accounting perspective
- Support the monthly and annual financial close and the preparation of GAAP financial statements and footnote disclosures
- Prepare and deliver audit support: PBC items, audit-ready work papers, and supporting schedules, coordinating day to day with the external audit team and managing technical accounting matters arising during audits
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, documentation, and internal controls across a multi-entity group (parent, pharmacy, telehealth, and shared-services entities)
- Build complex-area schedules and estimates: chargeback and refund reserves, revenue cutoffs, and reconciliation of merchant-processor activity to the general ledger
- Provide technical input to our ERP evaluation and implementation
- Partner with our operational accounting team, who own daily transactions and month-end close, so technical positions translate into clean, repeatable entries
- Annual GAAP audit completed on schedule, with technical positions well documented and well supported
- Documented revenue recognition memo set covering all product lines, approved by finance leadership
- Intercompany and consolidation work papers standing up cleanly every month
- Draft accounting policy manual covering the group s core complex areas
- Bachelor s degree in Accounting; CPA strongly preferred
- Approximately 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting; demonstrated ownership of ASC 606 positions preferred
- Public accounting experience, preferably with a national or Big Four firm, strongly preferred
- Experience with rapidly growing, multi-entity businesses is a plus; healthcare, pharmacy, DTC subscription, or e-commerce exposure is a plus
- Strong analytical, research, documentation, and communication skills: comfortable creating work papers, policies, and processes, and writing clearly enough that auditors, lenders, and non-accountants can follow your reasoning
