Harris, Hardy & Johnstone, P.C. is seeking a highly motivated Tax Manager to join our growing tax practice.

The Tax Manager plays a critical leadership role within the firm by managing complex tax engagements, providing tax planning and advisory services, developing client relationships, mentoring staff, and supporting firm growth initiatives.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical tax expertise with exceptional client service, leadership skills, and a genuine desire to help clients and team members succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review complex tax returns and related work papers prepared by seniors and staff.
  • Manage multiple tax engagements simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budget expectations.
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout the tax return preparation and review process.
  • Monitor engagement progress and resolve technical and workflow issues.
  • Deliver strategic tax planning and consulting services to closely held businesses, partnerships, S corporations, corporations, trusts, and individuals.
  • Research complex federal, state, and local tax issues and develop practical recommendations.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities while maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist clients with business transactions, entity structure planning, and succession planning opportunities.
  • Stay current on tax law changes and communicate their impact to clients and firm personnel.
Client Service & Relationship Management
  • Serve as a primary advisor for a portfolio of business and individual tax clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients through proactive communication and responsive service.
  • Meet with clients to discuss tax planning opportunities, business issues, and strategic initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to provide additional value-added services to clients.
  • Support partners and directors with practice development activities.
  • Participate in networking, referral development, and community involvement efforts.
  • Assist with proposals, presentations, and prospective client meetings.

Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 5-8+ years of public accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state taxation.
  • Experience reviewing complex individual and business tax returns.
  • Excellent organizational, project-management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Preferred
  • CPA License.
  • Experience with tax planning, advisory, and consulting engagements.
  • Experience serving closely held businesses and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Experience supervising and developing professional staff.
