Come join a team of Mavericks! We are looking for a Senior Accountant who wants to be a Controller one day - and who understands that the fastest way to get there is to work somewhere small enough to touch everything.

Maverick's finance function is two people: the Controller and you. Roughly half your time will be accounting in the traditional sense - reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and helping close the books accurately and on time. We run a disciplined close and produce a financial package leadership relies on, and you will help keep it that way.

The other half of the role is the part most Senior Accountant jobs do not include: going out into the business to understand how it actually works, building the operational reporting leadership needs, mapping payments back to the transactions that generated them, and improving the operational processes that feed the numbers.

We need someone with a real accountant’s instincts - the kind of person who cannot leave a reconciliation out of balance and who notices a number is wrong before anyone else does. We also need someone who would get restless doing only that. If your ideal week is half in the ledger and half wandering into Underwriting or Home Care asking why a process works the way it does, this is the job.

• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for the monthly close, and help the Controller close on a predictable calendar.
• Reconcile bank, premium trust, and operating accounts - investigating and resolving variances rather than carrying them forward.
• Pull vendor payables activity processed by our corporate shared services team into the ledger - coding, accruals, and cutoff - and keep expense records accurate and complete.
• Prepare audit schedules and support the year-end audit and any carrier or regulatory examination.
• Assist with commission calculations, carrier statement reconciliation, and settlement preparation.

• Own the matching of incoming and outgoing payments to the underlying policies, programs, warranties, and carrier obligations that generated them.
• Reconcile what the agency management system and warranty platforms report against what the bank and the general ledger show - and chase down every difference.
• Build repeatable processes for cash application so this work gets faster and less manual every month rather than simply recurring.

• Build and maintain the recurring reporting the business runs on: program and product profitability, revenue and commission trends, carrier balances and settlement status, and operating KPIs.
