Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced, detail‑driven Accounting Lead to oversee daily financial operations and support the continued growth of our service and construction business. This role requires strong hands‑on accounting skills, excellent organizational habits, and the ability to manage multiple workflows including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee and execute Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and proper documentation.
- Manage weekly payroll
, including union payroll processing
, wage classifications, deductions, fringes, and reporting requirements. - Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, job cost entries, and monthly financial statements.
- Prepare and process customer invoicing for service work, projects, and maintenance agreements.
- Track vendor statements, resolve discrepancies, and maintain strong vendor relationships.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash‑flow monitoring.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and industry‑specific reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with operations, service management, and leadership to ensure accurate job costing and financial visibility.
- Maintain organized digital and physical records in alignment with company standards.
- Assist with year‑end reporting, audits, and tax preparation as needed.
- 5+ years of accounting experience
, preferably in construction, mechanical contracting, or a service‑based industry. - Strong working knowledge of Quick Books (Desktop or Online).
- Demonstrated experience with union payroll or complex payroll environments.
- Solid understanding of AP, AR, job costing, and general ledger accounting.
- Proficiency with Excel and comfort working with financial data.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and follow‑through.
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize multiple responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Experience with certified payroll, prevailing wage, or multi‑state payroll.
- Familiarity with construction billing formats (AIA, progress billing, T&M).
- Exposure to service management software or job‑costing platforms.
- Prior experience leading or mentoring accounting staff.
