The Accounting Supervisor position is an integral part of our growing Finance team. This position has primary responsibility for leading the monthly invoicing and various reporting requirements for the Flexible Housing Subsidy Pool (FHSP) and its related programs, and for supervising the FHSP accounting team. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, a problem-solver, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. The Accounting Supervisor reports directly to the Senior Accounting Supervisor and works closely with and supervises a team of 5 accountants.
The candidate is required to maintain a collaborative working relationship with Brilliant Corners Managers and other related personnel. Successful performance of the work requires considerable knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the ability to exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines.
- Lead and manage the FHSP monthly close process, ensuring all internal and external financial reports, invoices, and reconciliations are completed accurately and on time
- Review monthly Measure H reporting for internal accuracy and completeness
- Responsible for financial administration of program-based monthly, quarterly, and annual billing and reporting
- Compile, analyze, and report accounting data for management reports and decision-making purposes
- Responsible for the maintenance of Brilliant Corners' corporate audit schedules
- Lead FHSP reclassification preparation and import into the accounting system
- Provide financial support for public grant budget development, annual budget preparation, and budget amendment processes
- Oversee monthly bank reconciliation processes, troubleshoot complex reconciliation issues, investigate variances, and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items while maintaining strong internal controls over cash accounts
- Oversee cash flow management by preparing cash forecasts, monitoring cash positions, analyzing trends and variances, and providing recommendations to optimize liquidity and financial performance
- Oversee monthly funder audits and ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements
- May serve as a primary liaison with external auditors, funding agencies, and government entities regarding contract and financial compliance matters
- Perform and oversee various accounting functions, including account reconciliations, financial analyses, journal entries, and regulatory reporting
- Manage monthly closings and supervise the FHSP accounting team
- Other duties as assigned
- 3 years experience in supervising accounting staff
- Thorough understanding of GAAP
- Thought understanding of balance sheet accounts and reconciliations
- Experience and proficiency with Salesforce, Intacct, and Microsoft Office
- Understanding of all aspects of a payment transaction from payment acceptance, reconciliation, dispute resolution, and payouts
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively with a team and suggest improvements to various processes
- Detail oriented and able to effectively organize and manage multiple responsibilities
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Sensitivity to homeless people and the issues of homelessness and recovery, and the ability to work with people from diverse educational and personal backgrounds
- Ability to manage and build a team
- Ability to clearly articulate program goals and develop tools and metrics for staff to achieve those goals
