Accountant II​/III

Under general supervision, assists the Financial Accounting Supervisor in processing, analyzing and reporting of accounting/financial data, and performs other professional accounting duties. Assists in the preparation of the annual budget and audit.

Assists in processing, analyzing and reporting of accounting data and preforms other professional accounting duties:

Reviews financial transaction documents, determines appropriate accounting treatment and posts into the accounting system.

• Prepares journal and appropriation entries and account adjustments.
• Reviews and maintains assigned accounts and related financial records, ensuring timely and accurate maintenance. Balances and reconciles accounts and takes appropriate actions to resolve discrepancies and correct errors. Prepares lists, schedules, statements and other reports relating to account reconciliation.
• Reviews water main construction advances, in order to track advance balance and prepare year-end analysis for audit.
• Prepares budget reviews and financial and operation reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Drafts the reports presenting data in tabular and graphical form. Analyzes and explains results.
• Completes surveys, prepares financial spreadsheets and proofs documents.
• Performs financial studies including expense analysis, revenue analysis and balance sheet account reconciliations for accuracy and identifies gaps in the current process and makes recommendations accordingly.
• Performs reconciliations of general ledger accounts, along with partial audits to ensure accuracy.
• Prepares periodic internal control reviews.

Assists in preparation of the annual budget and audit:

Prepares the necessary schedules and documentation.

• Works with other departments/divisions to gather requested data.
• Collects, compiles and distributes capital and revenue budget worksheets.
• Stays abreast of current GASB standards.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

• Graduation from a four year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, and a minimum of three years related accounting experience. Certified Public Accountant is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of the theory and practice of accounting, particularly GASB standards.
• Strong ability to analyze and interpret financial records.
• Strong Microsoft Word and Excel experience.
• Ability to effectively plan, organize, and communicate orally and in writing.
• Ability to prepare complex financial reports and evaluate complex financial systems.
• SAP software experience preferred.
• Experience with governmental fund accounting preferred.
• Must pass a controlled substance (drug) test for employment.
