Under the direction of the University Controller, supervise unit employees performing specialized accounting work using University accounting system. Administer federal/local grants and private contracts, scholarships and club accounts. An employee in this role monitors federal grants programs to ensure administrative efficiency of post-award compliance with federal and local laws and standards. This position also provides guidance and training to Grants & Contracts staff, collaborates with faculty on complex awards and submissions, ensures compliance with evolving regulations, and prepares sponsored funding reports.

It serves as the primary and final point of contact between faculty, departmental units, and sponsored research administration.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in accounting preferred, auditing or related field and six (6) years of accounting experience, or Bachelor’s degree in accounting and eight (8) years of accounting experience.

Experience in budgeting and financial reporting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
  • Master’s Degree in Accounting or related field. Demonstrated ability to lead a team.
  • BANNER financial software experience.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Microsoft Access.

Job Duties Pre award responsibilities:
  • 1.) Setting up grant awards/scholarships/club accounts in the web based financial system ( BANNER ).
  • 2.) Administering/monitoring the University chart of accounts ( FOPOAL ) system.
  • 3.) Providing annual list of federal/local awards reports to Administrative and Finance component for legislative budget hearings.
  • 4.) Collaborating and consulting with pre award staff to ensure compliance related to sponsored projects. Develops, assists and provides training support in conjunction with the Office for Sponsored Programs.
  • Grant responsibilities:
  • 1.) Manages the process for delivering the technical and financial reports for private and government sponsors.
  • 2.) Collecting information and documentation from various sources for delivery to auditors.
  • 3.) Ensure that related post-award processes are coordinated appropriately by members of the grants & contracts team, including award setup, review, account setup verification, and ensuring that staff is setup appropriately.
  • 4.) Work with export control officer and assist in documenting the Excluded Parties List System ( EPLS ) sam.gov website to update University annual EPLS list.
  • 5.) Maintaining and administering all electronic payment systems for all agencies (Payment Management System ( PMS ), G-5-Education, ASAP -(most other agencies), tracking local invoicing and private billing.
  • 6.) Gathering and submitting fiscal data required for the University’s audits; conducting sub-recipient monitoring when required; training new staff on Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and its application.
