The Accounting & Compliance Specialist is a support role within Intend Indiana’s Finance & Operations team. The position assists with the organization’s real estate, lending, and administrative activities by helping prepare grant and award compliance, claims, reporting, and routine accounting and bookkeeping functions under the direction of senior accounting and compliance staff.

The Accounting & Compliance Specialist provides day-to-day administrative and technical support and works closely with real estate, lending, finance, and operations teams across the organization. This role helps ensure that required documentation, financial records, metrics, and reports are organized, accurate, submitted on time, and available for review.

Evaluation of Performance

Performance will be evaluated based on specific goals, deadlines, and other quality indicators established for this position; working according to all specifications, policies, and standards established by Intend Indiana; working effectively in a team environment; and interacting positively with clients, partners, and employees.

  • Support compliance and reporting for grants and awards by preparing documentation, claims, and reports under the guidance of the Manager of Accounting & Compliance.
  • Assist with routine bookkeeping and accounting tasks, including entering bills, invoices, deposits, journal entries, and other transactions into the accounting system.
  • Assist with bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations by gathering supporting documentation, noting differences, and preparing schedules for review.
  • Review grant agreements and funder requirements with support from senior staff to learn reporting obligations, timelines, and documentation standards.
  • Track reporting schedules, compliance milestones, and deliverables to support timely submissions.
  • Assist with preparation for funder audits, monitoring visits, and compliance reviews.
  • Support development and maintenance of compliance tools such as checklists, templates, procedures, and reporting calendars.
  • Help maintain data accuracy across spreadsheets, accounting systems, databases, CRM systems, and reporting tools used for accounting support, compliance, and grants management
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Critical Skills, Knowledge and Behaviors
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency in basic financial accounting (debits and credits, journal entries, accruals, etc.)
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies and implement practical solutions
  • Clear, confident communicator, both written and oral
  • Technologically savvy, with comfort working in or learning to use various software systems including Oracle Net Suite, Vena Solutions, and Salesforce
  • Embrace and demonstrate the organizational values of accountability, collaboration, empathy, equity, and innovation both internally and externally.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Strong attention to detail in documentation, compliance, and follow-through
Minimum Experience, Education, Degrees and Licenses
  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable accreditation in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Non‑Profit Management, or a related field.
