Who We Are

Legacy Knight is an independent family office serving multiple high-net-worth families - the principals of which are most often extraordinary business owners and entrepreneurs whose success has enabled them to amass great wealth.

Led by family-office experts with deep experience serving some of the most prominent family names in Texas, Legacy Knight represents a new generation of the family-office model. Our vast network of unique investment opportunities, an exceptional qualification process, and a range of high-touch, hands-on services enable us to present bespoke strategies that meet our clients' individual needs.

Unrestrained by institutionalized thinking, corporate ownership, or even a significant family stakeholder, Legacy Knight remains beholden only to its families - and that’s a difference they can feel as well as measure.

Position overview

The Tax Manager is responsible for the day-to-day execution of tax compliance work supporting Legacy Knight's family office clients. This is a hands-on, operational role covering tax return review support, organization and maintenance of client tax documentation, and direct handling of IRS correspondence and notices. The Tax Manager works closely with the Tax Strategist and each family's external CPA to keep filings accurate, deadlines met, and records audit-ready.

The Tax Manager will also work with the Tax Strategist to support larger planning projects as needed. Candidates should bring a minimum of two years of tax experience at a Big 4 accounting firm and be comfortable owning the operational details of tax compliance for high-net-worth family clients.

In this role, you will:

Take ownership of the tax compliance process for a portfolio of family office clients - organizing and tracking documentation, coordinating with external CPAs, managing all IRS correspondence, and ensuring filings are staying on schedule. Additionally, assist Tax Strategist with family's income and estate tax planning.

Detailed role responsibilities
  • Collect, organize, and maintain complete tax document files for each family, including source documents from Arch and financial institutions, filings, and supporting schedules.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for IRS correspondence - reviewing notices, drafting responses, and tracking each matter through to resolution.
  • Partner with each family's external CPA to confirm filings are complete, accurate, and submitted on schedule.
  • Track filing deadlines, extensions, and estimated payment due dates across all client accounts, proactively flagging risks.
  • Maintain organized, up-to-date records of all tax filings, payments, notices, and related correspondence for each family.
  • Monitor relevant changes in federal, state, and local tax law, and flag implications for the advisory team as needed.
  • Support Tax Strategist in families' income and estate tax planning efforts, including coordinating with estate attorneys as needed.
  • Support the advisory team with tax-related reporting and materials for client and internal review.
  • Identify and document process improvements that make tax compliance and document management more efficient and reliable.
Why This Role Matters

By owning the day-to-day execution of tax compliance, the Tax Manager opens our tax strategist to focus on higher-value planning and advisory work for our families. They own the operational detail and enables Legacy Knight to deliver both flawless execution and sophisticated strategy across families' taxes.
