Accountant II (Temporary Contract)
Position SummaryA respected public-sector transportation organization is seeking a temporary Accountant II to provide accounting and financial support for a large-scale regional fare payment and customer account program. This is an approximately three-month assignment with an immediate start date. The Accountant II will work closely with the Finance Manager to support daily financial operations, cash management activities, reconciliations, and accounting functions.
This position is ideal for an accounting professional with experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, and financial analysis who can thrive in a fast-paced environment and quickly contribute to ongoing financial operations.
Assignment Duration- Approximately 3-month temporary assignment

- Process and monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions.
- Support payment processing and invoicing activities.
- Maintain accurate records for operating and capital expenditures.
- Research and resolve payment discrepancies and account issues.
- Assist with daily cash management activities.
- Process customer refunds and vendor payments.
- Manage stale-dated checks and related reconciliation activities.
- Support treasury-related reporting and documentation requirements.
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Perform account reconciliations and resolve reconciling items.
- Support month-end and period-end close processes.
- Ensure transactions are recorded accurately in accordance with accounting policies and procedures.
- Maintain supporting documentation for financial transactions.
- Assist with customer invoice requests and inquiries.
- Respond to internal and external accounting-related questions.
- Support audits and financial reviews by gathering requested documentation.
- Maintain accuracy and completeness of financial records.
- Assist in preparing financial reports and supporting schedules.
- Review transactions for proper coding and allocation within the general ledger.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent accounting experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles, including general ledger debits and credits.
- Experience with accounts receivable and/or accounts payable processes.
- Ability to prepare reconciliations and journal entries.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience supporting month-end close activities.
- Experience with cash management and treasury functions.
- Familiarity with capital and operating expenditure accounting.
- Experience working in a government, public-sector, transportation, or large enterprise environment.
- Experience supporting audits or financial compliance activities.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including:
- Pivot tables
- VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
- Data analysis and reporting
- Formula creation and troubleshooting
- Experience with accounting or ERP systems preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
