Position Summary

The accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries and account reconciliations, and supporting financial reporting through strong general ledger accounting knowledge. Experience with payroll processing is preferred. The successful candidate is detail-oriented, discreet, service-focused, and able to meet strict deadlines in a high-volume environment.

  • Maintain general ledger accounts by preparing and posting accurate journal entries, including recurring, adjusting, and payroll-related entries.
  • Reconcile bank, balance sheet, payroll, and other general ledger accounts; research discrepancies and prepare timely corrections.
  • Support month-end and year-end close by reviewing account activity, compiling schedules, and providing documentation for financial statements, tax filings, and audits.
  • Record and review accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and disbursement activity, ensuring transactions are properly classified and supported.
  • Process recurring and off-cycle payroll as assigned, reviewing time records, deductions, taxes, benefits, garnishments, direct deposits, and other payroll changes for accuracy.
  • Reconcile payroll to the general ledger, investigate and correct variances, and prepare payroll reports, tax filings, W-2s, 1099s, and related year-end documentation.
  • Ensure accounting and payroll records comply with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local requirements; maintain organized supporting documentation and audit trails.
  • Respond professionally to client and employee inquiries, protect confidential financial and payroll information, and assist with special accounting projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • At least two years of hands-on payroll processing and/or general ledger accounting experience.
  • Working knowledge of payroll fundamentals, deductions, taxes, and compliance practices.
  • Experience using payroll and accounting platforms and proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong numerical, data-entry, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated accuracy, follow-through, sound judgment, and ability to prioritize recurring and urgent work under firm deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, professional customer service, and effective collaboration across departments.
  • Ability to work independently, learn systems and policies quickly, and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of experience.
  • Experience with Quick Books, Sage, Accounting CS, or a comparable payroll platform.
  • Advanced Excel skills.

This is an office-based role requiring regular use of computers, phones, and standard office equipment. The position generally follows normal Monday–Friday business hours; additional hours may be required during payroll deadlines, year-end processing, system changes, or other business needs. The role requires dependable attendance and frequent interaction with employees and managers.
