The City of Greensboro Finance Department is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Accountant to help ensure the City’s financial records are accurate, complete, and fairly stated. This position applies generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting standards to financial transactions while supporting sound financial practices and responsible stewardship of public resources.

The department manages financial operations, reporting, accounting, budgeting, and other services that help ensure public funds are accurately recorded, effectively managed, and reported in accordance with applicable standards and requirements.
Compensation and BenefitsEstimated Hiring Salary Range: $50,095.00 - $65,915.00 Full Salary Range: $50,095.00 - $89,644.00 Annually

As an Accountant, you will be responsible for reviewing and verifying financial data, reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries, and supporting accurate financial reporting. You will work with multiple accounting systems, interfaces, and subsystems to understand how transactions flow through the City’s financial environment and ensure they are properly reflected in the general ledger.
Key Responsibilities Include- Apply generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting standards to financial transactions.
- Review and verify financial data to ensure records are accurate and fairly stated.
- Reconcile the City’s bank accounts, including five imprest bank accounts, to the general ledger.
- Analyze accounting systems, interfacing transactions, and subsystems and their interaction with one another.
- Prepare journal entries and adjusting journal entries to accurately reflect cash and other financial transactions.
- Identify and communicate necessary accounting adjustments to Finance staff.
- Work with City departments and the City’s bank to resolve cash reconciliation issues and pending adjustments.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial reports for Finance staff, City departments, boards, and the State of North Carolina.
- Prepare the annual Statement of Values to update replacement values for City property, including additions and deletions.
- Prepare assigned schedules and financial information for auditors.
- Prepare assigned statements, notes, and tables for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
- Perform account analyses and other reconciliations as needed.
- Research financial discrepancies and make appropriate adjustments to maintain accurate financial records.
