Description

The Office of the Attorney General, Department of Child Support Services (DCSS), is seeking a Child Support Specialist I in the Administrative Enforcement Section. This is an entry level position which allows for the development of knowledge and understanding of the Child Support Program’s policies, procedures and operations.

The Child Support Specialist I performs basic child support casework to carry out administrative enforcementprocesses in order to collect child support from delinquent obligors.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate dependability, excellent communication skills, strong attention to detailand a desire to acquire new skills and knowledge regarding child support policies and processes. The Child Support Specialist I will work collaboratively with other staff members assigned to the Administrative Enforcement Section, contracting official staff and other state agency staff to ensure the successfulcollection of child support through administrative enforcement processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviews system information and reports to determine appropriate administrative enforcement action.
  • Monitors child support cases and administrative enforcement actions initiated for compliance and follow-up action as needed.
  • Performs basic child support casework relating to administrative enforcement processes as assigned.
  • Develops a working knowledge of state and federal regulations and child support policy and procedure ingeneral with a focus on administrative enforcement processes.
  • Assists state and contracting official staff in reconciliation of issues related to administrativeenforcement processes and actions.
  • Responds to inquiries from child support participants, state and contracting official staff, and other state agencies.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Willingness to learn child support processes, policy and procedures and federal and state laws and regulations in relation to administrative enforcement processes.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with both professionals and non-professionals with respect to child support matters.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal oversight.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to identify deficiencies and propose soundand practical solutions.
  • Ability to work well with others and contribute to a cooperative team environment.
  • Discretion, integrity, and professionalism in handling sensitive or confidential matters.
Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Must complete two years (54 semester hours) from a college or university.

Administrative work, clerical office work, work dealing directly with the public, or experience in reviewing, monitoring, determining eligibility for, and, or, administering Food Stamps, the Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program, Medical Assistance, Child Support, or other public assistance programs will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.
