Seeking a careful, highly organized person to help organize approximately 20+ bankers boxes of archival materials documenting the work of internationally recognized urban scholar Dr. Janice Perlman and the Mega-Cities Project.
The collection includes field notes, correspondence, reports, conference and event materials, board records and other papers spanning several decades. Some materials will be prepared for transfer to the Hoover Institution Library & Archives at Stanford University. Other materials will be placed into a new, accessible filing system for ongoing work.
Responsibilities include:
- Organizing and labeling boxes, folders and documents
- Creating a clear inventory of the collection
- Identifying which materials have already been scanned
- Matching physical documents with digital files
- Flagging duplicates, missing items and questions for review
- Preparing selected materials for transfer to Stanford
- Setting up retained materials in a practical, easy-to-use filing system
- Identifying and organizing materials that help tell the story, influence and key learnings of Dr. Perlman’s work and the Mega-Cities Project
An organizational framework and clear decision guidelines will be provided. No materials will be discarded without approval.
Archival, library science, records management, museum, historical research or similar experience is preferred. Graduate students and early-career professionals are encouraged to apply.
This is an on-site, flexible, part-time position in Nyack, NY. The project will begin with a paid 10-hour trial period, with the opportunity to continue if it is a good mutual fit.
Pay: $30–$35 per hour, based on experience
