Plan and lead story times, craft sessions, summer reading program, STEAM activities, and special family events. Manage the Inter-Library Loan borrowing services. Supervises staff and the day-to-day operations of the library in the absence of the library director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Supervises full- and part-time staff in the absence of Library Director.
- Helps create an environment where customers have the best possible library experience.
- Assists customers with circulation, readers' advisory, reference, computer, and information needs.
- Provides courteous and friendly customer service to the public, other employees, and officials in person, over the phone, and online.
- Basic assistance with electronic devices, printers, faxes, scanners, cell phones, and copiers.
- Participates in securing the building, performs opening and closing procedures, and protects confidential information in patron records.
- Performs other job-related duties as directed and handles special projects as assigned.
- The ability to work and contribute to a team environment where leadership is valued and expected at all levels and to treat co-workers and customers with respect.
- Critical thinking in problem-solving and decision-making.
- Flexibility and adaptability in an environment of continuous improvement and change.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

- Working knowledge of basic math, computer skills, and office equipment.
- Skills in basic computer usage.
- Ability to learn computer-automated library systems.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to perform basic math using units of American money.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county employees, officials, and the public of varying ages.
- Ability to deal with a high volume of work in a short period.
- High school diploma (or GED certificate).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Library Science or Education.
- One year of clerical and customer service experience is required.
- Library experience preferred.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work is performed primarily in a standard climate-controlled office and requires sufficient physical mobility to work in an office setting with prolonged exposure to computer screens, to stand or sit for prolonged periods, walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and lifting to 15 pounds.
Need manual dexterity and visual acuity. This position closes the library one late night per week and one Saturday every other month ( 6 Saturdays per year). Must be able to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
