About Us
Case Western Reserve University's Office of Government Relations serves as the university's point of contact for interaction with federal and state government officials. The office monitors and responds to legislative and regulatory issues that impact the university, our students, and our research enterprise. The office serves as a campus-wide resource for protocols related to interactions with public officials.
Purpose and Scope
The Office of Government Relations seeks an organized, detail-oriented undergraduate student to provide administrative support to both the Associate Vice President and the Director of Government Relations. This Student Assistant position offers a unique experience to gain insights into higher education policy and government relations activities for a leading research university.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general office support, including organization, data entry, and document preparation.
Draft correspondence, briefing papers, agendas, itineraries, and other written materials and analysis.
Assist in tracking legislation and regulatory issues of importance to the university.
Watch, take notes, and report on congressional and state legislative hearings and other meetings of importance to the office and the university.
Provide logistical support for campus visits by elected officials, their staff, and other meetings of importance hosted by the office.
Shadow Government Relations staff in their daily activities and assist them as appropriate to gain exposure to higher education policy and government relations.
Provide support to other staff within the Office of the President as needed and appropriate.
Qualifications- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail and ability to proofread and edit content.
Strong organizational, time, and project management skills.
Professionalism, reliability, and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace tools.
Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
Familiarity with state and federal government structure and processes.
Undergraduate student majoring or minoring in a relevant field such as: political science, public policy, creative writing, economics, healthcare management, history, leadership, or marketing.
