The Recreation Specialist supports the Keep La Porte Beautiful committee in a highly administrative capacity, responsible for preparing agendas, taking minutes, maintaining records, and assisting with committee-related events and marketing planning. Additionally, this role helps the Marketing and Special Events team with planning City events and assists with marketing campaigns in social media, advertising, and direct marketing.
To be successful in this position, the candidate must be highly self-motivated, proactive, creative, organized, and a team player. They must have a working knowledge of marketing, event planning, and administrative support.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives general supervision from the Marketing & Events Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSDuties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Perform highly administrative and clerical duties for the Keep La Porte Beautiful committee, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and maintaining official records.
- Coordinate, promote, and implement Keep La Porte Beautiful committee events, projects, and related marketing initiatives. This includes organizing community clean-ups, beautification projects, and environmental awareness campaigns, as well as coordinating volunteer groups.
- Assist the Marketing and Special Events team in coordinating, promoting, and implementing a variety of City events.
- Respond to inquiries or requests for information from interested community groups and citizens.
- Participate in event and committee meetings; assist in evaluating program techniques and content.
- Assists in taking photos and/or videos for programs or during events.
- Coordinate social media posts and correspondence for the committee.
- Support the Marketing and Special Events team with general event logistics, stakeholder coordination, and budget management.
- Assist with broader digital marketing initiatives and content creation for various City communication channels.
- Assist as part of the Emergency Operations Center team and performs related duties as assigned.
For indefinite periods of time - mobility within an office and field environment; exposure to dust, mites, and radiation hazards; exposure to constant noise and extreme heat; writing; walking; typing; twisting body; stooping; standing; squatting; sorting; sitting; seeing; pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds; filing; cleaning; reading; decision making; reaching above shoulder level; using both hands for simple and firm grasping;
clarity of hearing; communicating clearly and effectively, in person, by two-way radio, and by telephone; fine finger manipulation; operation of a personal computer, typewriter, and calculator.
Knowledge of:
- Preparation of official meeting agendas and accurate minute-taking
- Marketing & Event Planning
- Modern office practices, procedures and equipment
- Basic mathematics
- Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and You Tube
- Photography and video editing is a plus
Ability to:
- Assist in coordinating, organizing, and implementing committee initiatives, programs, and special events.
- Prepare and distribute publicity concerning new or ongoing committee and event offerings.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Some experience in administrative support, including preparing agendas and taking minutes and a High School Diploma or GED. A degree or Certificate in Marketing is preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICAT ESPossession of a valid Texas Driver's License.
Possession of, or ability to obtain within three months an Emergency First Aid and a valid C.P.R. Certification; AED Administration.
