Do you want to do work that matters, alongside supportive leaders who will help you grow faster than you ever thought possible? Are you a creative problem-solver who is energized by challenges?
You’ve come to the right place.
Working at the intersection of clients, Client Service Teams (CSTs), practice leadership, the broader firm, and fellow client development professionals, you will serve as a trusted advisor and orchestrator, helping shape account strategies, cultivate new client relationships, identify emerging opportunities, and accelerate priority pursuits across the broader Federal Civilian and Health landscape. You will help drive growth across our firm's most important client sectors.
Your portfolio will span agencies across the Federal Health & Civilian markets, including Treasury, Transportation, public finance and regulatory organizations, healthcare, and other priority departments and agencies. Leveraging a deep understanding of federal missions, procurement, budgeting, and stakeholder ecosystems, you will help teams navigate complex client environments and translate McKinsey's capabilities into meaningful client impact. Your work is highly collaborative and externally focused.
Success is measured not by producing market intelligence, but by helping teams open doors, strengthen relationships, improve account strategies, qualify opportunities earlier, and increase the quality of client engagements. Strong analytical capabilities remain important, but primarily as tools to support client development decisions, executive conversations, and growth planning. As a member of McKinsey's Social, Healthcare & Public Entity (SHaPE) Practice, you will combine strategic thinking, structured problem solving, and practical business development experience to help expand the firm's impact across the US Federal Civilian and Health market.
You will get the apprenticeship, mentorship, and professional development needed to expand your expertise across client development, leadership, and strategy. You will work alongside experienced partners and client leaders while contributing to some of the firm's highest-priority growth initiatives. From your first day, your judgment, ideas, and leadership will influence important client development decisions. You will join a global community of colleagues committed to learning, collaboration, and creating lasting impact for our clients.
Some of your key responsibilities will include: advising CSTs on account strategy and long‑term growth planning; helping identify new client relationships, executive stakeholders, and mission areas; supporting development of client engagement strategies and relationship plans; facilitating account planning sessions and growth workshops; expanding McKinsey's reach by identifying and cultivating relationships with new client stakeholders and influencers; and helping align McKinsey capabilities with evolving agency priorities and mission needs.
You will also: help identify emerging client priorities and potential engagement opportunities; assess strategic fit and growth potential of prospective work; advise teams on customer organizations, acquisition environments, and decision makers; support pursuit strategy and opportunity prioritization; collaborate with capture, alliances, and practice leadership to strengthen opportunity development; challenge teams to think beyond the current engagement by identifying adjacent opportunities and unmet client needs;
and help shape opportunities before formal procurement or capture activities begin. While developing focused analyses that improve client understanding and support informed growth decisions, you will analyze agency missions, organizational priorities, and stakeholder ecosystems; assess budgets, appropriations, acquisition strategies, and funding trends; and monitor legislative and policy developments affecting client priorities. Lastly, you will apply structured problem solving and analytical rigor to support executive decision making while you conduct white‑space analyses and client ecosystem assessments;
