Google's Global Sustainability team develops and implements sustainability strategies covering carbon, circular economy, water, product integration, reporting, and employee engagement. The team also works to identify leadership opportunities, mitigate sustainability risks, and advance action across the company.

As Environmental Initiatives Lead, you will lead environmental strategies across the full lifecycle of site development, from early planning through operations. You will translate Google's sustainability commitments into practical, low-carbon computing solutions while coordinating technical, commercial, regulatory, and environmental priorities.

The position requires extensive experience in program or project management, climate science, greenhouse gas accounting, environmental initiatives, sustainability strategy, and corporate advisory.

• Develop regional and site-level sustainability action plans designed to minimize community impacts.
• Collaborate across watershed stewardship, nature-based solutions, biodiversity preservation, circular resource flows, carbon removal, and local community benefit initiatives.
• Partner with Google's Data Center Energy and Power team throughout commercial agreement processes.
• Help inform power procurement, infrastructure agreements, and behind-the-meter generation agreements aligned with Google's 24/7 carbon-free energy goals.
• Synthesize complex technical, regulatory, and emissions data into clear narratives and actionable impact plans.
• Establish program frameworks, milestone tracking systems, and risk mitigation models for complex site sustainability strategies.
• Work within tight commercial timelines and changing project constraints.
• Collaborate with sustainability teams to address customer-specific emissions escalations.
• Co-develop technical solutions that help enterprise clients advance their climate goals.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in program or project management.

• 12 years of community engagement, environmental, or similar experience.
• 10 years of experience in climate science, greenhouse gas standards, and GHG accounting.
• 10 years of experience in management consulting, business operations, business strategy, or corporate advisory focused on energy and sustainability.
• 4 years of experience in data center design, construction, and contracting pipelines.
• 4 years of experience working with nature and biodiversity frameworks and metrics.

Candidates should be able to coordinate complex, multidisciplinary programs involving technical, environmental, commercial, regulatory, and business stakeholders. The role also requires the ability to translate complex emissions and sustainability information into practical strategies, communicate clearly with cross-functional teams, manage risks, and maintain progress across projects with multiple dependencies.

Google's data center infrastructure and energy requirements create a broad sustainability footprint involving carbon emissions, power procurement, water, biodiversity, natural resources, and surrounding communities.
