Camp Ernst Overnight Camp Counselor (Transportation)
The following outlines the essential functions and qualifications for this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Live in a cabin with campers and work cooperatively with co‑counselors to create a safe, clean, and supportive environment that fosters belonging and positive relationships.
- Provide active supervision of campers at all times, ensuring their physical and emotional safety while promoting healthy daily routines that support achievement and well‑being (hygiene, sunscreen, hydration, rest and nutrition).
- Establish cabin expectations and routines while building trusting relationships and supporting each camper's personal growth and development through achievement, belonging, and teamwork.
- Guide and engage campers in daily camp programs and activities in accordance with camp schedules, rules, and policies, encouraging participation and positive experience for all.
- Prepare for camper arrival by reviewing Camper Information Forms and leading orientation, icebreakers, and group‑building activities that promote connection and inclusion.
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating strong character, respect, and responsibility while encouraging positive behavior and healthy group dynamics.
- Minimum of 18 years of age.
- High School diploma or its equivalent required.
- Demonstrated experience working with children preferably in one of the following areas: outdoor living, boating, camping, songs, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games.
- Current certification in CPR/First Aid.
- YMCA Child Abuse Prevention training completed.
- Maintain cleanliness of cabin and activity areas and care for program equipment and supplies to support a safe and welcoming camp community.
- Complete required documentation accurately and on time, including cabin reports, awards, and camper communications.
- Communicate concerns related to camper health, behavior, or safety promptly to the Unit Leader, nurse, or administrative staff to ensure continued care and accountability.
- Participate in staff training, meetings, camper check-in/check-out, and other duties necessary to ensure smooth, safe, and mission‑driven camp operations.
- Adhere to established association standards.
