Position Summary:

The Recess Supervisor is responsible for ensuring a safe, respectful, and engaging environment for students during recess periods. This includes actively supervising students on the playground and other designated outdoor or indoor recess areas, promoting positive peer interactions and enforcing school expectations.

Principal Responsibilities:

Actively supervise students during recess to ensure a safe and respectful environment.
Monitor playground activities and encourage safe, appropriate play.
Reinforce school expectations and playground rules while promoting empathy and responsibility.
Assist students in resolving minor conflicts using positive behavior strategies and appropriate problem-solving techniques.
Refer significant behavioral issues, injuries, or emergencies to the appropriate school staff.
Maintain awareness of all students by circulating throughout assigned supervision areas.
Ensure students use playground equipment safely and appropriately.
Assist with orderly transitions between the classroom, recess, and other school activities.
Communicate effectively and respectfully with students and staff.
Collaborate with school staff to support a positive recess culture that encourages cooperation, inclusion, and physical activity.

Qualifications and Skills:

Showing empathy, practicing patience, and responding calmly in challenging situations.
Prior experience working with children in a school or youth setting.
Ability to maintain order and supervise large groups of students in an outdoor environment.
Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to safety concerns and emergencies.
Dependable, punctual, and able to follow directions.
Ability to remain alert, attentive, and physically active during supervision periods.
Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout outdoor playground areas for the duration of assigned supervision periods and in varying weather conditions.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Knowledge of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills preferred.

Classification:

Part-Time | 10-Month

Salary:

As per Redding Student Support Contract

Schedule:

3.75 hours per day
