After Care Counselor
- Trenton YMCA
Actively engages with groups of children in an off-site after school and or Before care program. Provides quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Must meet the minimum qualifications (high school degree and working towards an advanced degree)
- Must be 17 years of age or older
- Must have proven experience in childcare management and or group management strategies
Ability to assist in the planning, leading and participating in a range of PHYSICAL activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
RequirementsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in tutoring elementary education (K-6) subject material.
- Assist in the implementation of age/developmentally appropriate activities following YMCA guidelines.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
- Apply basic youth development principles in working with children through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment of youth.
- Actively guide staff in best practices.
- May assist the program director in coordinating overall program activities
- Insures the proper use of school property and grounds as well as YMCA equipment and supplies.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Participate in staff training and meetings.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Be a role model to students and staff in your attitude and behavior.
- Maintains positive relations with children, parents, school personnel, coworkers, subordinate staff and volunteers. Models' relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
- Work on non-school days such as Fall Break, Spring Break, etc.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
