Job Summary:
The Bridge Working Foreman oversees and coordinates the daily operations of crews involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of bridges and related structures. This position ensures work is performed safely, efficiently, and according to project plans, specifications, and schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and direct crew members involved in bridge construction, including carpenters, laborers, equipment operators, and subcontractors.
- Interpret blueprints, specifications, and drawings to ensure proper construction of bridge components.
- Coordinate equipment and material needs with project managers and suppliers to avoid delays.
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards, environmental regulations, and project-specific quality requirements.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce job site safety practices and PPE compliance.
- Monitor progress and productivity of assigned tasks and adjust workflows as necessary.
- Provide hands-on support and training to crew members when needed.
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities, labor, equipment usage, and material consumption.
- Communicate regularly with the superintendent and project management to report progress, issues, and delays.
- Assist in planning and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines and budget targets.
- High school diploma or GED required, technical training or relevant certifications a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in bridge construction, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Thorough understanding of bridge construction methods, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with a focus on team coordination and safety.
- Ability to operate or oversee operation of heavy equipment commonly used in bridge work.
- Knowledge of DOT standards and structural concrete formwork.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Willingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and travel as needed.
Certifications:
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
- CPR/First Aid
- Flagger or Traffic Control Certification
