PAVER OPERATOR
Essential Functions- Operate the paver and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
- Preheat paving screed before placement of asphalt and monitor temperature settings of the asphalt mixture.
- Manually ignite burners to start the paver and regulate screed temperature.
- Operate the paver controls to lower the screed auger, control the hopper, and navigate the direction of the paver.
- Align the paving machine into position when receiving asphalt by dump truck, maintain constant flow of asphalt into hopper, and push the dump truck along the construction surface.
- Observe the distribution of paving materials along the screed and control the direction of the screed to eliminate voids at curbs and joints.
- Line the paver appropriately to the work area and ensure proper application of the asphalt, smoothing it evenly to the desired height, width, and depth.
- Attach extensions to the screed to adjust width.
- Regulate temperature of asphalt flowing from the hopper.
- Operate other heavy equipment and perform construction-related duties as required.
- Promote and adhere to the company’s safety program, encouraging a safety culture among employees, subcontractors, and consultants.
- Attend daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections.
- Bilingual a plus.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred. Minimum two (2) years experience operating a paver.
Work EnvironmentThis position is performed outdoors in extreme weather conditions, with exposure to moving mechanical parts and vibration.
Physical DemandsEmployee may sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must use personal protective equipment and comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.
