Salary: $105,113 – $134,755 annually

The City of Boca Raton is seeking an experienced Assistant Building Official to support operations, guide technical decision-making, and help lead a high-performing Building Division. This is an opportunity to influence large-scale development, mentor staff, and play a critical role in public safety and code enforcement.

Reporting to the Chief Building Official, you will serve as a key leader within the Building Division—balancing operations, technical oversight, and team development.
In this role, you will:Assist in managing daily Building Division operations
Act as Chief Building Official when needed Lead and oversee plan review and inspection functions Review and approve complex, large-scale construction plans Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes Provide guidance on code interpretation and enforcement Supervise, mentor, and evaluate inspectors and plan reviewers Represent the City before boards, committees, and City Council Support code updates, policy improvements, and process enhancements Participate in emergency response and disaster recovery operations
Required Qualifications
High school diploma (or equivalent) 7+ years of inspection/plan review experience (building, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing), including: 3+ years as a government building inspector 2+ years in government plan review 1+ year of supervisory experience
Florida DBPR Standard Certificate – Building Code Administrator (F.S. 468) Valid Florida Driver’s License
Florida Contractor License (any discipline) Licensed Architect or Professional Engineer
Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) Fire Safety Inspector certification 3+ years leading teams in a municipal building department
This role is ideal for a professional who can move seamlessly between:

Additional RequirementsAvailability for after-hours and weekend response Participation in Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during major events Ability to conduct post-disaster damage assessments
