Job SummaryS&S Paving & Construction is seeking an experienced and results-driven Construction Superintendent to oversee and manage field operations for paving, grading, excavation, concrete, and civil construction projects. The Construction Superintendent is responsible for planning and coordinating daily jobsite activities, supervising field personnel and subcontractors, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards and contract specifications.
This position requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with extensive construction knowledge and a commitment to safety.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily construction activities on multiple job sites.
- Manage field personnel, foremen, operators, laborers, and subcontractors to ensure efficient project execution.
- Review project plans, specifications, schedules, and contract requirements before and during construction.
- Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to meet project deadlines.
- Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and client requirements.
- Conduct daily jobsite safety meetings, inspections, and job hazard analyses.
- Monitor project schedules and adjust manpower and equipment as necessary to maintain productivity.
- Maintain quality control by ensuring work meets project specifications and company standards.
- Communicate regularly with Project Managers regarding project progress, scheduling, manpower, equipment needs, and potential issues.
- Coordinate inspections with owners, engineers, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, production records, timecards, equipment logs, and project documentation.
- Identify and resolve field issues, delays, and conflicts in a timely manner.
- Ensure proper traffic control, erosion control, and environmental compliance on all projects.
- Inspect equipment and coordinate maintenance or repairs as needed.
Train, mentor, and evaluate field employees while promoting teamwork and professional development. - Assist with project planning, budgeting, and scheduling during pre-construction and throughout project execution.
- Foster positive relationships with customers, inspectors, subcontractors, and the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required; construction management or related education preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience supervising heavy civil, asphalt paving, grading, excavation, or concrete construction projects.
- Previous superintendent or senior foreman experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, project scheduling, safety regulations, and quality control.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, blueprints, and project schedules.
- Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred or ability to obtain.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and construction management software preferred.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under deadlines.
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and navigate uneven terrain for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, dust, and varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely access active construction sites.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and occasional night work as required.
- Active construction sites including roadways, commercial developments, and municipal projects.
- Exposure to moving heavy equipment, traffic, loud noise, dust, fumes, and varying weather conditions.
- Requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and work boots.
