Commercial Building Inspector / Construction Observer

Lee & Associates, Inc. is seeking to hire a full-time highly motivated Commercial Building Inspector / Construction Observer to support municipal, transportation, commercial, and infrastructure projects throughout Wisconsin. This position is ideal for an individual with Wisconsin commercial building inspection certifications who can also assist with construction observation services when not performing building inspections.

You will collaborate with an expanding team and engage in a wide range of assignments involving public infrastructure, commercial development, and municipal improvement projects. Primary Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will provide commercial building inspection and construction observation support for municipal, transportation, utility, and commercial projects throughout Wisconsin.

On any given day you may:

  • Perform commercial building inspections in accordance with Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code and Commercial Building Code requirements.
  • Review and document inspection findings and maintain accurate inspection records and reports.
  • Coordinate with municipal staff, contractors, property owners, engineers, and project managers regarding inspection activities and project compliance.
  • Perform construction observation of sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water mains, street construction, curband gutter, asphalt pavement, concrete sidewalks, and concrete pavement.
  • Observe building construction activities including concrete construction, structural components, waterand wastewater piping, and equipment installations.
  • Maintain project records including daily observation logs, time-and-material records, and record drawings.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, shop drawings, and related project documents.
  • Communicate and coordinate with project owners, contractors, operations staff, testing laboratories, and regulatory agencies.
  • Assist project teams in maintaining project quality, compliance, and documentation.
Skills and Requirements:
  • Additional Wisconsin building inspection certifications are beneficial.
  • Coursework or degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, engineering technology, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with municipal, commercial, transportation, or infrastructure construction projects isbeneficial.
  • Experience in any of the following areas is beneficial:
    • Commercial building inspections
    • Construction observation
    • Municipal infrastructure projects
    • Concrete and structural observation
    • Water and wastewater infrastructure
    • WisDOT projects
    • Paint inspection
    • AASHTOWare
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, maps, work orders, and shop drawings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain organized and accurate project documentation.
  • Ability to use laptops, tablets, and common business software applications.
  • Ability to work outdoors and navigate active construction sites, including climbing ladders, scaffolding, anduneven terrain.
  • Ability to occasionally travel and work adjusted schedules as project needs require.

  • Outdoor working environment on active construction sites and inspection locations.
  • Travel throughout Wisconsin to project and inspection sites.
  • Occasional overtime or overnight travel may be required depending on project demands.
