Position OverviewThe Project Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate estimates for custom residential construction projects, establishing and tracking project budgets, ordering materials, and working closely with project managers throughout the construction process.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, comfortable working with numbers, and understands residential construction. You should be able to read and interpret plans, obtain and compare subcontractor and supplier pricing, identify potential cost issues, and communicate effectively with both field and office personnel.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed estimates and budgets for custom home construction projects
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, and project plans to determine labor, material, and subcontractor requirements
- Solicit and evaluate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers
- Develop accurate project budgets and cost breakdowns
- Track project costs and budgets throughout construction
- Identify budget variances and potential cost issues early
- Work closely with Project Managers to maintain accurate project budgets and forecasts
- Order and coordinate materials for projects
- Obtain and compare material and subcontractor pricing
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, purchase orders, commitments, and project costs
- Assist Project Managers with change orders, pricing, and cost tracking
- Communicate with subcontractors and vendors regarding pricing, availability, and scheduling
- Help ensure materials are ordered accurately and delivered when needed
- Review invoices and purchase orders for accuracy and proper job allocation
- Assist with project closeout and final cost reconciliation
- Maintain organized project documentation
- Perform other estimating and project support duties as needed
- Experience in residential construction estimating, project management, purchasing, or a related field
- Strong understanding of residential construction methods and materials
- Ability to read and understand architectural plans and construction documents
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
Excellent attention to detail and organization - Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, and/or Buildertrend
- Ability to work effectively with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients
- Construction experience or hands‑on knowledge of the building process is strongly preferred

Experience with custom residential construction is highly desirable.
