ScopeOf Work
- Coordinate with field crews and project managers to conduct stakeout, topographic, and as-built surveys.
- Assist with construction staking or site layout surveys outlining the locations of what is to be done or built in the area or job site.
- Work closely with DHM Job Superintendents, Foremen, General Contractors and provide technical guidance and expertise to other individuals in the company.
- Conduct physical site surveys to produce maps using GPS, surveying instruments, digital images, and satellite photographs.
- Travel to locations and use known reference points to determine the exact location of important features.
- Analyze approved land development plans to determine locations and elevations of all building pads, utilities, road and stormwater facilities by using computer-aided design (CAD).
- Provide stakeout for the designed items as needed
- Prepare as-built plans, maps, and volume reports.
- Use Topcon GPS & Topcon Robotic equipment, as well as basic survey tools such as instrument tripods, lasers, levels, and measuring rods.
- Maintenance and upkeep of all surveying equipment.
- Responsible for own computations and CAD – verify the calculations and analyze and interpret the data.
- Read and correctly interpret blueprints and designs.
- Monitoring projects from the start to finish and monitoring changes in the land during the construction process.
- Perform miscellaneous labor tasks and other duties, as or when assigned.
- Knowledge of the construction/excavating trade.
- Working knowledge of GPS and GIS.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record, and able to travel distances to job sites.
- Ability to use hand tools and survey equipment applicable to the survey trade in a safe manner, prefer experience with Topcon GPS and Topcon Robotic.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce workplace safety procedures and practices.
- Degree in surveying or civil engineering is preferred, or minimum 2 years land surveying or construction surveying experience required.
- State certification or licensure required for a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS).
- When on the job sites it may require strenuous physical work/activity, heavy lifting, pushing and/or pulling survey equipment and objects regularly of 25 to 50 lbs. and physical strength to pound stakes in the ground.
- Work environment involves exposure to hazards or physical risks including working near moving mechanical parts.
- Frequent exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, wet or humid conditions, mud, dirt, fumes, smoke, dust, loud noises, uneven ground, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, confined spaces, wooded areas, rough terrain, heavy equipment and trucks, and vibration.
