Construction Labor & Trades, Heavy Equipment Operator
RPM Utilities is seeking an experienced Loader Operator Subcontractor to support our underground utility construction crews. This position is responsible for safely operating front-end loaders and related heavy equipment to move materials, load trucks, maintain jobsite production, and assist with excavation and utility construction activities.
The ideal candidate has construction equipment experience, strong safety awareness, and the ability to work efficiently in an active utility jobsite environment.
Responsibilities- Operate front-end loaders and other heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Load and move dirt, rock, sand, gravel, pipe, and other construction materials.
- Load haul trucks and support material movement throughout the jobsite.
- Assist with back filling, grading, stockpiling, and site cleanup.
- Maintain proper material placement to support underground utility installation.
- Work closely with Foremen, Pipe Layers, Main Line Operators, and other crew members.
- Follow spotter signals and maintain safe distances from employees, equipment, trenches, and utilities.
- Perform daily pre-operation equipment inspections.
- Check fluid levels, tires, attachments, safety devices, and overall equipment condition.
- Report equipment damage, mechanical issues, and maintenance needs immediately.
- Maintain equipment in a clean and safe operating condition.
- Assist with jobsite setup and cleanup as needed.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
- Maintain awareness of underground and overhead utilities.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Help maintain an organized and productive work area.
- Perform general construction duties when equipment operation is not required.
- Previous experience operating a front-end loader in a construction environment required.
- Underground utility or excavation experience strongly preferred.
- Experience loading trucks and moving construction materials.
- Knowledge of grading, back filling, stockpiling, and material handling procedures.
- Ability to safely operate equipment around trenches, employees, traffic, and other heavy machinery.
- Strong understanding of construction jobsite safety practices.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Dependable attendance and ability to report to work on time.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to climb on and off heavy equipment throughout the workday.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform physical labor when needed.
- Ability to work around active construction sites, trenches, and heavy equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry tools, materials, and equipment as required.
- Must be able to work early mornings, overtime, and extended hours based on project needs.
