The Junior Estimator builds the foundation for winning work. Working under the guidance of a Sr Estimator, this role supports the estimating team with accurate takeoffs, organized bid documentation, and reliable pricing inputs, while developing the skills to produce complete, competitive estimates independently.
Core Responsibilities- Review bid documents, drawings, and specifications to complete assigned takeoffs and estimate components.
- Support Estimators and the Sr Estimator in assembling estimates and proposals that follow HY estimating standards.
- Request, organize, and vet vendor and supplier quotes for assigned scopes.
- Prepare hand-off documentation and assist with project turnover to Project Management.
- Participate in HY Estimating Academy training and apply feedback from estimate reviews to future work.
- Maintain accurate estimating data, bid logs, and project files in HY systems.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site walks alongside senior team members to build scope and field awareness.
- Working knowledge of electrical construction, materials, and installation methods (field background preferred).
- Proficiency with, or ability to quickly learn, HY’s estimating software and takeoff tools.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications accurately.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through on assigned work.
- Clear communicator who asks questions early and is receptive to coaching and feedback.
