Freelance Writer, Inertia

The Inertia, a leading online publication dedicated to surf and snow, is looking for high-energy, creative wordsmiths with a passion for surf and the outdoors to write news, personality driven features, lifestyle stories, and opinion pieces.

• Write publication-ready content from approved pitches, or as assigned.
• Create or coordinate supporting visuals (e.g., photographs) for pieces.
• Demonstrate subject matter expertise in several of the following categories:
  • Surfing and surf-adjacent sports like foiling or paddling
  • Snow sports
• Demonstrate a solid understanding of SEO principles and practices.

• Two-plus years of journalism or copywriting experience and a portfolio of published content including news and/or feature writing.
• Photography skills are a plus.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with digital publishing tools and content management systems;
  Word Press experience preferred.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or related field (preferred).
