For more than 27 years, Creative Design Management, Inc. has been a trusted leader in the bridal design industry, designing and manufacturing couture bridal gowns and accessories for prestigious bridal salons nationally and internationally. Our newly opened Design Studio on Hilton Head Island continues that legacy blending timeless, hand-finished craftsmanship with innovative design.
We are building our Hilton Head atelier team and are seeking experienced Dressmakers and Seamstresses who take genuine pride in the quality of their needlework.
The Dressmaker/Seamstress constructs, finishes, alters, and repairs couture bridal gowns to the studio's exacting standards. This is hands-on bench work in a collaborative studio setting, working directly with our designers, pattern makers, and cutters on one-of-a-kind and small-run garments in fine fabrics.
Key Responsibilities:- Construct bridal gowns and accessories from patterns and designer specifications with precision and consistency
- Perform fine hand sewing: hand-finished hems, linings, and facings; catch stitch, slip stitch, blind stitch, and pick stitch; invisible seam finishing
- Set and finish couture details boning, corsetry and inner structure, horsehair braid, bustles, French seams, covered buttons and loops, hand-set zippers and closures
- Apply and secure lace appliqué, beading, and embellishment by hand
- Operate industrial sewing machines (single needle, serger/overlock, blind hem) and press equipment to a professional finish
- Complete alterations, adjustments, and repairs, including work on completed and delicate garments
- Assist with fittings and implement fit corrections accurately
- Inspect work throughout production and maintain the studio's quality standards
- Meet production schedules and delivery timelines
- Keep a clean, organized, and safe work area appropriate to white and light-colored goods
- Proven experience as a dressmaker, seamstress, or couture sewing; bridal, evening wear, or other high-end garment experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to construct a garment start to finish from a pattern
- Portfolio, work samples, or a sewing test may be requested
Skills:
- Strong hand-sewing ability is essential this is a hand-finished product, and hand work is a daily requirement of the role
- Skilled in couture construction and finishing techniques, including underlining, interlining, hand-basting, and hand-rolled or hand-finished edges
- Experienced with delicate and difficult fabrics: silk satin, silk chiffon, organza, tulle, illusion, crepe, lace, and beaded fabrics
- Proficient with industrial sewing machines and pressing/shaping techniques
- Able to read and follow patterns, work orders, and designer instructions
- Meticulous attention to detail and a high standard for finish quality
- Steady hands, good near vision, and the manual dexterity required for fine detail work
- Strong time management; able to work efficiently without sacrificing quality
- Professional, courteous manner with clients, designers, and team members
- Reliable attendance and the ability to work as part of a small studio team
- Able to sit or stand for extended periods and handle garments and materials as required
Full-time and part-time schedules are available. Part-time hours can be arranged to fit the right candidate; some flexibility may be required during peak production and delivery periods.
